The execution was the first case of the death penalty used by the government against protesters. A video surfaced today showing Rahnavard expressing what would have been his last wish.

Rahnavard can be seen in the video, blindfolded and flanked by two masked guards, speaking to the camera.
“I don’t want anyone to mourn my (death) grave. I don’t want them to read the Koran or pray at my grave. Celebrate my death by playing music,” he said, quoted by NDTV on Friday, December 16. , 2022.
Rahnavard was sentenced to death by a court for stabbing to death two members of the security forces and wounding four others. However, the director of the Oslo-based Iran Human Rights group, Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, said Rahnavard was sentenced to death on the basis of coerced confessions after the trial.
