How much more expensive shipments from China? And is there a threat of Christmas without presents? Simona Kijonková, the head of one of the largest Czech transport companies, talks about this in an interview with economist Lukáš Kovanda on the program Our Czechia. Watch Our Czech from 17:30 on TN LIVE.
According to Simona Kijonková, in addition to the transport crisis, there is also a material crisis. When a pandemic began in Asia at the end of 2019, factories closed and production stopped.
“It had an enormous impact on the whole EU, we paid a little for the fact that we had previously moved production to Asia,” said Kijonkova, the founder of the Shipyard. “Production in the Czech Republic stopped for a short time, material was missing and the transport crisis began,” she added.
Rising prices may affect Czechs’ wallets, especially at Christmas. “The prices of plastics from which toys are made have risen significantly, so I would recommend not delaying the purchase of gifts too much,” advises the boss.
If you want a dream toy for your children, according to Kijonková, you should look at price comparators on the Internet today and also find out if the goods are in stock or if when. “I would try to buy gifts as soon as possible,” she recommended.
According to her, the material and transport crisis also has an effect on prolonging the supply of goods from weeks to months. The sellers allegedly tried to stock as many goods as possible, but it may be too late to order gifts from abroad in November.
“I would recommend Czech manufacturers and traders. Because goods that are made in Europe or at home are more certain that it will arrive by Christmas,” thinks the head of Zásilkovna.

Online shops from third countries must now pass a customs declaration, which may extend the delivery date. “If it is delivery from Asia, it will delay deliveries compared to previous years and become more expensive,” Kijonková predicts.
In addition, VAT is likely to start paying for small packages delivered from outside the EU from October. So far, packages worth up to 22 euros have been exempt from VAT, which means that a package for a hundred can cost up to 300 crowns. On the other hand, this is good news for Czech manufacturers.
