Diederik Gommers was allowed to visit Op1 on Wednesday evening to respond to the bizarre action of the coalition parties in the Lower House yesterday. They ran away en masse the moment a (joint and several) vote was to be taken on a salary increase for healthcare personnel. By suddenly leaving the House, the coalition ensured that the quorum was not reached, which meant that votes could not be taken.
Applauding health workers… the coalition parties have turned it into a national obsession in recent months. We all had to stand by an open window, on the balcony or in the garden and clap hard in front of all those doctors and nurses who are on the ‘front line’ fighting corona.
Yes, yes, care was the most important thing in the Netherlands.
That was all a theater performance. Nonsense. Drama. The coalition does not care about the concern. This was proved once again last night when a (roll-call) vote was to take place on a salary increase for healthcare personnel. The pitiful coalition members literally all ran out of the Chamber so that the quorum was not met and the vote could not go through.
Obese.
Diederik Gommers – the IC man – was confronted with this later in the evening by Charles Groenwappie, at Op1. Gommers’ reaction to the coalition’s action left little to the imagination. “They expect us to deliver, but this happens every time,” says Gommers. “Don’t expect great things and heroic deeds if we can’t talk about this.”
