Doni Monardo Call WHO Appeal Can Not Be Followed Raw

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Chair of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling Covid-19 Doni Monardo mention, World Health Organization recommendations ( WHO) related to corona virus (Covid-19) is not always in accordance with the conditions in Indonesia.

Therefore, each recommendation needs to be reviewed first and not immediately followed outright.

“Notification from WHO needs to be reviewed according to the conditions in our country. If we follow it outright, our impact will definitely occur even more infections,” said Doni after a limited meeting at the Palace on Monday (6/29/2020).

According to Doni, a study must be carried out before carrying out the WHO appeal.

What’s more, according to him, WHO statements often change. One of them is about people without symptoms (OTG) who are said to have a small risk of transmission.

“It was published by WHO maybe two weeks ago. We have discussed, is it wrong or not WHO. It turns out that it was correct again by WHO. WHO keeps changing,” he said.

Doni also said it would be dangerous if the WHO’s statement was followed directly.

Because, the number of OTGs in Indonesia is very large, reaching between 70 percent to close to 90 percent. They can be carriers of the virus for vulnerable groups.

“They (OTG) are okay, but they are very risky when they touch parents and people with comorbid diseases,” he said.
