US President Donald Trump on Tuesday he fired Christopher Krebs, who was the director of the country’s national cyber security and security infrastructure agency, which reports to the Homeland Security Department. Krebs, a highly respected member of the Trump administration, had rejected the objections by the president on alleged fraud during the elections of last November 3 – which Trump is carrying out without any evidence – and instead supported the regularity of the elections.
Krebs said a few days ago that he expected to be fired precisely for claiming that the elections had not had problems and therefore went against Trump’s positions. His dismissal comes a week after that of the secretary of defense, Mark Esper, with whom the president had been on bad terms for months.
In the past few hours, there have been many demonstrations of solidarity towards Krebs, especially from members of the Democrats. The spokesperson for the president-elect Joe Biden, Michael Gwin, commented that “Chris Krebs should be commended for his service protecting the election, not fired for telling the truth.” Nebraska Republican Senator Ben Sasse, who is a critic of Trump, also said that “Krebs did a great job and obviously he shouldn’t be fired.”
Honored to serve. We did it right. Defend Today, Secure Tomrorow. #Protect2020
