Domitys organized a conference on teleconsultation and medical deserts, in its residence in Montluçon (Allier)

On the occasion of World Health Day, Tuesday June 28, Domitys organized a conference on the subject of teleconsultation on the same day in its Les Rives de Cher residence.

In front of an audience of Montluçonnais residents and the cameras of the Domitys Youtube channel, Anna Kuhn Lafont, head of the Gray Matters think-tank, Bernadette Mallot, director of the hospital center, Séverine Begin Carteron, director of the Rives de Cher residence, and Stéphane Bruneau, Director of Domitys Partnerships, intervened under the leadership of Hélène Camus, in charge of Animation and Well-Being at Domitys.

Part of the solution against medical deserts

All the speakers highlighted that teleconsultation is only “part of the response to medical desertification”, as Anna Kuhn Lafont pointed out, but that it has a real place to play.

Emergencies that can no longer meet all requests

An idea approved by Bernardette Mallot.

In terms of emergencies, we are in tension like three quarters of establishments in France. When you don’t have a doctor, you go to the only place where there is still light. However, we no longer have the staff to meet the demand. The teleconsultation reassures because we have a doctor on the phone.

The director of the hospital center pointed to a crisis linked to the exhaustion of health personnel which is added to the health crisis.

27 million people in a medical desert in 2027

To show all the interest of teleconsultation and the need to provide the means to develop it, Stéphane Bruneau recalled that currently

12 million people currently live in a medical desert. They will be 27 million in 2027.

Success of the terminal of the Domitys residence in Montluçon

Séverine Begin Carteron said that the installation of a teleconsultation terminal had been “a great opportunity” for the Domitys residence in Montluçon, which she manages, but not only.

A hundred teleconsultations have been carried out since the beginning of the year by residents but also by outsiders. It is accessible 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In 2021, Domitys and its partner Medadom installed around fifteen teleconsultation terminals in residences throughout France, including Montluçon. This initiative is continuing this year with six new terminals.

The terminal of the Domitys residence in Montluçon (Allier) carried out 75 teleconsultations between September and December

Not necessarily a solution for nursing homes

Anna Kuhn Lafont nuanced by saying that teleconsultation was not necessarily the most suitable response in nursing homes in the face of patients with loss of autonomy.

All the speakers concluded that teleconsultation was one solution among others and that a willingness to cooperate was needed from all the actors (local authorities, health professionals, senior residences, etc.)

Faced with the rise of medical deserts, pharmacies in Livradois-Forez (Puy-de-Dôme) are setting up teleconsultation terminals
