Dominican Businessmen Launch Technology Training Program for Youths in the Bronx Community

Dominican businessmen Chris Corcino and Dalisa Heredia launched a training program in technology for youths from the Bronx community in New York City.

The initiative is the product of an agreement with Dominicans USA (DUSA)a non-profit organization, founded in 2014 by businessman and philanthropist of Dominican origin Manuel Matos, which is dedicated to empowering and serving the Dominican and Latino community in the United States.

Corcino y Heredia, through their company Intellisys D Corp and its educational entity Cincinnatus Institute of Craftsmanship (CIC) -which operate in the Dominican Republic- have committed to teaching classes in Artificial Intelligence (AI), application development, and computational thinking.

For his part, carried will complement the contents with initiatives for the development of the civil commitment, sports and gameswhile Intellisys D Corp will connect to the youths with possible job opportunities in the area of technology.

The project will begin with a three-month pilot program at ELLIS Prep. Academy, with the objective that students develop projects of Artificial Intelligence models trained by themselves, and that they can eventually train for jobs in technology areas.

At the end of the execution time of the agreement, the parties may consider the convenience of expanding it to the other schools on the JFK High School campus, with the possibility of impacting hundreds of youths students.

“The program is aimed at high school students, offering them the opportunity to pursue a career in technology, which opens up the best job opportunities in the United States and opens up the possibility of climbing the social ladder with a prosperous future”Corcino said.

The project originated after the visit of Manuel Matos and Eddie Cuesta, president of the Board of Directors and executive director of Dominicanos USA, to the Cincinnatus project in Villas Agrícolas, led by Chris Corcino and Dalisa Heredia, with the purpose of developing areas that they do not have access to high-quality programs and real, viable opportunities.

The Cincinnatus Institute operates in Santiago de los Caballeros, Jarabacoa and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, where it offers technical training programs in software development and digital transformation. In addition, it has the Futuro de Esperanza project, aimed at training youths of the Villas Agrícolas sector in skills related to the technology.

Dominicans USA (carried) has the goal of promoting civic participation, leadership, and equal opportunity for Dominicans and Latinos in the United States.

Among the initiatives of carried Education, employment, entrepreneurship and community development programs are included, as well as the promotion of civil rights and social justice. The organization works in collaboration with community, business and political leaders to carry out its initiatives and create a positive impact in people’s lives.
