The strategy of “dis-canute” has already been tried, without success, by the government of Macri. Of course, there were some presidents who enjoyed episodes of a certain bonanza, when savers repatriated foreign currency, attracted by a highly depreciated peso or by a confidence boom. But all very temporary. The truth is that the Argentines who have saved in dollars outside the system, they did it for something. And if that “for something” persists today it is difficult to think that, voluntarily, they are going to fulfill the official desire to disarm the “joint”.
