Doesn’t fly even when launched, Valve’s new VR controller patent approved

Valve is developing a new VR controller. As related patents are disclosed, rumors that Valve is preparing a new VR device are gaining momentum.

On the 22nd, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) granted a patent for Valve’s new VR controller. The official name is Electronic Controller with Adaptive Hand Strap. It features a strap that can be adjusted to the shape of your hand, so the device won’t fly off even if the controller is thrown or dropped.

Looking at the picture presented in the slideshow, the appearance is similar to the currently being sold valve index hand controller. However, the part of the band that wraps around the back of the hand can be adjusted and is designed with a foldable structure to hold the device more securely in the hand. At the top, there’s a ring similar to the quest meta controller to help with hand tracking. In addition, thanks to the strap, the position of the finger is also fixed in one place, so individual finger tracking is possible.

Meanwhile, Valve received a patent for a head-mounted VR device from the USPTO in June. The device is a standalone device that does not require a separate connection. If Valve is preparing a new VR headset, there is a possibility that the patented controller will be introduced here.
