Does it still make sense to disinfect, for fear of COVID, food and other objects or surfaces that we touch? Prof. Cherecheş’s answer

A year ago, everything was disinfected because of the new coronavirus, from surfaces, to streets, doorknobs and even food. Does it still make sense to do that? It is the legitimate question that many people ask and to which specialists try to give an answer.

“For those who do not work or often visit hospitals or other health institutions, the answer is most likely no, but wash your hands,” concluded the public health professor at UBB, Răzvan Cherecheş, in a video on Facebook .

The chances of getting infected with SARS-CoV-2 after touching some surfaces are very small, says the specialist:

“At the beginning of the epidemic, when samples were taken from surfaces, beds, tables, doorknobs in hospitals and other areas, virus RNA was found. The problem is this: virus RNA survives in the external environment, but has very low viability. It could be kept alive in laboratory conditions. The likelihood of COVID-19 infection on surfaces is extremely low: an infected person should lick the trigger, and you should immediately touch the trigger with your hand and then put it in your mouth to become infected. Even if the probability of getting the virus from the surfaces is very low, hand washing prevents 100% the probability of infection on the surfaces ”.
