In addition, vaccine injections are also not carried out through body cavities, such as the mouth, nose and ears.

The statement by the Al Azhar Fatwa Center came after the government announced it would continue its vaccination campaign in the month of Ramadan.

MUI

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) previously issued a fatwa that the Covid-19 vaccine does not invalidate fasting.

The decision was contained in Fatwa Number 13 of 2021 concerning Law Vaccinations Covid-19 while Fasting.

Covid-19 Vaccination which is done by intramuscular injection does not invalidate fasting, “said the Head of the Field Commission Fatwa MUI Asrorun Niam, quoted from the news Kompas.com, 17 March 2021.

In addition, there are three recommendations from the MUI regarding Covid-19 vaccination:

1. The government can vaccinate Covid-19 during the month of Ramadan to prevent the transmission of the Covid-19 outbreak by paying attention to the condition of Muslims who are fasting.

2. The government can vaccinate Covid-19 at night in the month of Ramadan for Muslims who fast during the day.

3. Muslims are required to participate in the Covid-19 vaccination program implemented by the government to achieve group immunity and be free from the Covid-19 outbreak.
