In 2020, HIV infection in the Voronezh region most often occurs through sexual contact. This was reported by the press service of the regional health department on Monday, November 30. The number of infections in this way from January to October was 52.7%. This trend is typical for the entire country.
But the share of intravenous HIV transmission in the region is steadily decreasing. In 2015, this method accounted for 66% of new cases, in 2019 – 56.2%, and for 10 months of 2020 – 46.1%.
In recent years, as noted in the regional health department, HIV infection is most often diagnosed in older age groups. In 2020, in 74.3% of cases, it was detected in people over 30 years old.
In general, the incidence of HIV infection over 10 months of this year decreased by 29.4% compared to the same period in 2019. 383 new cases were identified. In total, more than 431 thousand residents of the region were tested for HIV infection.
The regional health department noted that HIV testing can be passed free of charge on the day of treatment at the regional clinical center for the prevention and control of AIDS at 29b Patriotov Avenue.
