JAKARTA – Post-immunization follow-up events (AEFI) such as fever, nausea, dizziness, muscle aches, drowsiness, redness, and itching often occur after vaccination.
Regarding this effect, the Chairperson of Komnas PP KIPI Professor Dr. dr. Hinky Hindra Irawan Satari said that this is the body’s reaction to the vaccine that is inserted into the body. “The body responds, it is moved to form immunity,” he said in a written statement, Friday (9/4/2021).
He conveyed this in the #TANYAIDI event held by the PB IDI COVID-19 Vaccination Advocacy Team and the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN), Thursday (8/4).
Furthermore, Hinky conveyed that people’s sensitivity to vaccination is also different. This is the same as the condition when people eat chilies. Some people have felt spicy sometimes when they eat a little chili. Conversely, for those who like spicy taste, they tend to be able to eat large amounts of chilies.
According to him, all vaccines have AEFI with low and mild symptoms. And these symptoms can disappear in a day or two. “Without or with drugs,” he said. He also added that the reactions that occur after vaccination are not necessarily caused by the vaccine component. This can happen because there is a product defect or procedure error.
Like the vaccine, which should be injected into the muscles but into the fat tissue, causing swelling. In addition, these effects can also occur due to anxious reactions due to the immunization atmosphere. According to him, these symptoms are also similar and occur during school exams or breakups. Usually, nervousness before an exam leads people to repeatedly go to the toilet. Meanwhile, during a breakup, people tend not to have an appetite for food.
“If children are injected, they can scream and cry but are bought a toy to calm down immediately. For adults who can’t, the reaction can actually repeat itself after being vaccinated. Even before being vaccinated, it can be pale, tight, heart palpitations. This happens in 60 percent of people who report it. there are symptoms after vaccination, “he explained.
Hinky said that every vaccine brand generally has AEFI. But so far the symptoms are relatively the same and disappear within a day or two. If symptoms persist after that, he suggests checking with a doctor or calling the phone number listed on the vaccine card.
“My message is if there are complaints or abnormalities after being vaccinated, immediately report it to the contact number on the vaccination card,” he said. (E-4)
