Overactive bladder

A overactive bladder it could be why you need to urinate often. On the medical site tuisarts.nl, an initiative of the Dutch College of General Practitioners, states that an overactive bladder makes the bladder more irritable. This is because the bladder contracts if it is not yet completely full. But your brain gets a signal that you need to go to the bathroom. Then the bladder feels fuller than it actually is. As a result, you often suddenly have to go to the bathroom. This can occur both day and night.

Caffeine and alcohol

Do you drink a lot of drinks that contain caffeine or alcohol? Then this may just be why you often have to go to the bathroom. Caffeine and alcohol irritate the bladder a little, because they cause more waste in the urine, while the bladder wants to get rid of it. This will make you pee more

Stress a place

Stress can make all types of systems in the body work, including the production of urine. If you are under stress, you probably have an increased heart rate, which can make your kidneys work harder and thus produce more urine. There is also a theory that increased urination in times of stress attributes to increased production of the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol ensures this an American study from 2015 before the production of another hormone, vasopressin, is inhibited. If you don’t make enough vasopressin, you won’t be able to hold water as well, causing you to urinate more.

cystitis

A bladder infection is a common cause of frequent urination. The bacteria that cause inflammation can enter the urinary tract in 2 ways. Namely through the bloodstream or from the outside through the urethra. The last option is the most common. A bladder infection can go away on its own by drinking plenty of water, but this will most likely make you urinate even more often.

Age

As you age, your bladder capacity may decrease. In men, the prostate continues to grow from the age of 25. An enlarged prostate can irritate the bladder, stimulating the need to urinate faster. Due to age, your pelvic floor muscles also weaken, which means you are less able to hold urine.

Pregnancy

When you are pregnant, the baby in your belly presses more and more on your bladder. This makes you feel the need to urinate faster.

Insipid diabetes

People with the rare disease diabetes insipidus – not related to diabetes diabetes – you will need to urinate more often. This disease causes the body to retain water less well, so that someone has to urinate much more often and also has to drink a lot in order not to become dehydrated.

The toy

Some medications such as water pills cause you to have to go to the bathroom often. The pills drain any excess fluid that you hold. They do this by stimulating urine production in the kidneys. Doctors prescribe diuretics, among other things, for high blood pressure, heart failure, and diabetes.

Cancer

You obviously don’t want to think about it. But if you have a tumor near the bladder, it can take up space, causing pressure on the bladder. This can cause urination problems.
