Pemprov DKI Jakarta explained that nightlife entertainment is now the new cluster of virus transmission corona (Covid-19) is not a place of entertainment, but a restaurant or cafe.
Acting (Plt) Head of the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Disparekraf) Gumilar Ekalaya said that all nightclubs were clearly prohibited as long as the PSBB was in effect. However, restaurants and cafes may still be open with restrictions.
“Actually, it’s not night entertainment, it’s cafes, it’s a restaurant category, actually not a nightclub,” said Gumilar when contacted, Friday (25/9).
Restaurant with night entertainment concept is allowed to serve on-site meals during PSBB transition. But now it is prohibited considering the PSBB has been tightened.
He explained that the restaurant with the concept of night entertainment is also different from the existing night entertainment venues. According to Gumilar, the restaurant with the concept of night entertainment is limited to providing a bar.
However, while operating at PSBB transition, the bar in the restaurant is also not allowed to open.
“Now, the cafe is basically a restaurant, but he usually becomes one with the bar. Usually a bar means there is a tableware bar, there is a display of drinks,” said Gumilar.
“Usually when the bars are like that it becomes one, so it feels like clubbing. That’s actually the concept of a cafe, yesterday was the one that was allowed to open the restaurant, as if the bar was allowed to open. Actually (the bar) was closed, so it sounded like night entertainment even though it didn’t, “he continued.
Gumilar explained that all of this was in response to the accusation that the Chairperson of the Jakarta Entertainment Entrepreneurs Association (Asphija) Hana Suryani asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to take more firm action against the night entertainment concept restaurants that were still operating during the PSBB.

“That is precisely what we saw as a restaurant in the form of evening entertainment (which continues to operate), and it is not strictly regulated,” said Hana when contacted, Thursday (24/9).
Hana admits that she is disappointed that many restaurants with the concept of night entertainment can still operate. Meanwhile, nightclubs have been banned from operating since March 2020.
