DKB: Online banking partially paralyzed – DER SPIEGEL

Due to a malfunction at the DKB online bank, many customers were temporarily unable to access the bank’s website and online banking on Tuesday – and problems still occur on this Wednesday. The cause of the interference is one cyber-attack: “The server service provider of the DKB was exposed to a third party attack on January 7, 2020, which affected the availability of our website and some services,” a spokesman for the bank confirmed to SPIEGEL. The bank has not yet released any further details on the attack. But there is “currently no sign of a data tap”.

The bank took countermeasures together with its server service provider and further strengthened the security measures. She also works with the responsible authorities. According to the DKB, all payments already initiated by customers, such as standing orders, direct debits or appointment transfers, will continue to be carried out. Checking and credit cards could also be used as usual.

According to the spokesman for the bank, the problem has now largely been resolved, but in isolated cases there may still be temporary difficulties logging in. “The DKB is doing everything it can to ensure that the unrestricted availability of these services is restored as quickly as possible,” it says. The DKB, a daughter of BayernLB is the second largest German direct bank with around 3.9 million customers.
