Djokovic started the Champions Tournament with a victory over Schwartzman.
World number one Djokovic confirmed the role of the favorite in his opening match and defeated Schwartzman the biggest ranking outsider in London in the sixth duel. The five-time winner of the tournament had a slight problem only in the first set, when he lost 1: 2 to the break, but he quickly leveled and then he had the match under control.
“I’m very happy with how I played in the second set,” Djkovic said after winning 78 minutes. “It was hard for Diego. It was the first match in this arena for him and I would say that at the end of the first set he did not show his best tennis,” added the 17-time Grand Slam winner in the almost empty O2 hall.

The 33-year-old Serb has already won 37th place in the finals of the ATP Tour season, becoming the third largest player. Only the absent Swiss Roger Federer (59) and the Czech legend Ivan Lendl (39) won more matches at the Champions Tournament.
Djokovic can catch up with record holder Federer in the number of total triumphs in the tournament this year. On Sunday in the hall, the Belgrade native took over the trophy for ending the season as the world number one for the sixth time in his career, which so far only the American Pete Sampras has achieved.
In Wednesday’s second duel, Djokovic will face the fourth seeded Medvedev. The Russian tennis player defeated Zverevo for the second time in eight days, which he defeated last Sunday in the finals of the indoor tournament in Paris, and today he retaliated last year’s defeat from the basic group. At the second start in London, the 24-year-old Moscow native scored his first victory on the fourth attempt.
