Dixie Chicks delete the controversial term by name and continue as The Chicks | NOW

The Dixie Chicks changed their name to The Chicks. The term ‘Dixie’ has a link to the American slavery past and the three band members are now removing the word from their band name.

The country trio has been commenting on their name for years, as ‘Dixie’ refers to the southern states of the United States. During the American Civil War, those states fought against the abolition of slavery.

Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Robison have the name of their band on it without much notice social media changed and released the single immediately March March from. The clip for that song contains footage of not only the Black Lives Matter demonstrations, but also demonstrations against climate change and women’s rights.
