Distribution of corona patients now national, Defense helps with logistics NOW

The distribution of corona patients across hospitals throughout the Netherlands is coordinated nationwide, says Ernst Kuipers of the Landelijk Netwerk Acute Zorg (LNAZ) on Friday. News hour. He also reports that Defense will help with logistics matters.

These agreements have been made with Minister Hugo de Jonge of Public Health. Since the departure of Minister Bruno Bruins for Medical Care, the CDA member has been responsible for the corona file.

Starting this weekend, it will be determined per region which hospitals, especially in North Brabant, want to transfer patients and how many people are involved. Kuipers says to News hour that hospitals themselves spend a lot of time looking for a new location for patients.

Until a few days ago, the transfers of patients with the coronavirus involved only one person, according to Kuipers. He says that there is an increase in the number of patients that have to be moved to maintain sufficient capacity in the hospital.

Defense will play a supporting role in logistics, for example by helping with the inventory. Kuipers says to News hour that Defense helps to get the situation under control.

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) announced on Friday afternoon that 643 of the 2,994 corona patients in the Netherlands are or have been admitted to a hospital. In the evening, the Dutch Association for Intensive Care (NVIC) reported that there are 281 infected persons on the ICUs.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads through sneezing and cough drops. The virus can be transmitted directly from person to person or (for a limited time) through surfaces such as door handles.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Nearly all deaths involve the elderly or other frail, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
