Disney manager switches to TikTok – news.ORF.at

Disney’s head of streaming Kevin Mayer, who was recently overlooked when the top job was filled, is switching to the Chinese video platform TikTok. Mayer becomes head of TikTok and at the same time is to lead the operational business at the Chinese parent company Bytedance, as his new employer announced yesterday.

TikTok with its short video clips is particularly popular with young users. However, the company had to defend itself against allegations that it was not doing enough to protect minors. In the United States, some politicians also warn against TikTok because of the Chinese owners. TikTok has therefore already tried to establish itself more as an international platform.

Mayer was most recently responsible for setting up the Disney + streaming service, which was launched last year and is designed to prepare the entertainment company for the online future. That is why he was also considered a promising successor to the long-time Disney boss Robert Iger. In February, however, the previous head of the theme park division, Bob Chapek, got the top position.
