The 25 safety regions in the Netherlands want a quarantine obligation for people who have had close contact with a corona patient. That says Hubert Bruls, the chairman of the Security Council in the AD. The measure announced by Minister Hugo de Jonge became correct yesterday under pressure from the Lower House postponed for several weeks.
Bruls would be “very disappointed” if the House of Representatives ultimately does not agree with a change in law that makes it possible to quickly impose a quarantine obligation by mayors, he tells the newspaper.
Quarantine obligation is already possible, via the Public Health Act. “But that procedure, through the Public Prosecution Service and the judge, is very slow,” says Bruls. “Moreover, it does not offer the possibility to impose a quarantine obligation on people who enter the Netherlands from risk areas abroad. We would be very happy if this became possible for mayors through an amendment to the law. The number of infections is increasing, people are becoming more lax. just need to be able to do something to intervene. “
