Discovery of a drug used in the treatment of high blood pressure that has proven its ability to slow aging and extend life span

Al-Marsad newspaper: A team of researchers has found that the drug rilmenidine can help people live longer and slow down aging.

The findings, published in Aging Cell, show that in young and elderly animals treated with brelimnidine, which is currently used to treat high blood pressure, increases lifespan and improves health markers, mimicking the effects of caloric restriction.

The researchers demonstrated the benefits of riminidine treatment on the duration of good health and life span in the roundworm C. elegans.

Unlike other drugs the researchers previously studied for this purpose, the widely prescribed oral antihypertensive drug relmenidine has potential for future translation to humans because side effects are rare and not severe.
