It’s that time again! On Whit Monday, May 29, 2023, 20 mills from Schkeuditz to Torgau will open their doors and invite you to discover and visit. A colorful supporting program with music, exhibitions and creative offers complements the guided tours at many mills – and physical well-being is also taken care of. The central opening will take place at 10 a.m. by the patron, District Administrator Kai Emanuel, at the Werbeliner post windmill in the Reibitz school camp.
For centuries, the mill region outside the gates of Leipzig was of great importance for supplying the city. In the area north of Leipzig, mills of various drive types have been preserved, reflecting the use and technical progress of the respective construction period. From the post mill to water mills to the motor mill, the history of milling can be traced on the way through the mill region of northern Saxony.
The German Mill Day takes place annually on Whit Monday. The day of action keeps the cultural technology of milling in public awareness, presents the mills as technical monuments and makes them accessible and tangible.
