Digital education soon on the Jura school curriculum

Digital education is entering the curriculum of the Jura school. A new course will be introduced in 7P (students aged 10-11) from the next school year in August. It will be gradually extended to the following levels thereafter. Its content will be structured around three axes:

– computer science, which will allow familiarization with coding and digital operation;

– digital media education, social networks included, with an emphasis on prevention;

– the use, that is to say the use of digital tools, from the Internet to word processing for example.

The introduction of this new lesson responds to the evolution of society, as well as to a desire at the French-speaking region.

Lesson deleted in environment

After consultation with schools, the Jura working group that worked on the issue chose to introduce this new course to the detriment of one of the four weekly environment lessons. The head of the pedagogy section within the Jura Education Service believes that this deletion should not harm the acquisition of environmental knowledge. “The environment includes lessons in geography, history and science. The reduction of a lesson in these fields should not automatically imply a reduction in natural sciences, but in the proportionality of these three disciplines ”, explains Anne-Lise Nagel. Especially since education in sustainable development is not treated only in science lessons, but in an interdisciplinary manner. The teachers who will have to provide these lessons will benefit from specific training. /the D
