Difficult way home from vacation / The traffic jams towards the south are shrinking / Traffic jam forecast for August 20th to 22nd

Munich (ots) – The journey home from the summer vacation will not go smoothly in many places this weekend. In Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Hesse, Bremen, Lower Saxony, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, as well as the north and center of the Netherlands, the holidays will end soon. The traffic in the direction of vacation areas, on the other hand, is already noticeably reduced. There is still a high risk of traffic jams on the access roads to the excursion areas in view of the large number of home tourists. Including above all the mountain and lake landscapes, but also the coasts.

The particularly heavily loaded barrages (both directions):

– trunk roads to the North and Baltic Seas
– A 1 Lübeck – Bremen
– A 3 Passau – Nuremberg – Würzburg
– A 4 Kirchheimer Dreieck – Erfurt – Dresden
– A 5 Basel – Karlsruhe – Frankfurt

– A 7 Flensburg – Hamburg
– A 7 Würzburg – Ulm – Füssen / Reutte
– A 8 Salzburg – Munich – Stuttgart
– A 9 Munich – Nuremberg
– A 61 Ludwigshafen – Koblenz – Mönchengladbach
– A 93 Kufstein – Inntal triangle
– A 95 / B 2 Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen
– A 99 bypass Munich

On the highways in neighboring countries, those returning from vacation ensure noticeably more traffic. Compulsory breaks will not be absent. It looks a little better in the opposite direction, because fewer and fewer holidaymakers are still on their way. Special feature of Italy: As in previous years, this weekend (the weekend after the Ferragosto holiday, August 15), a particularly large number of holidaymakers will be driving back home from the sea. At times this will only be possible in a stop-and-go manner. The classic tourist routes Tauern, Fernpass, Brenner, Karawanken, Rheintal and Gotthard routes, the highways to and from the Croatian and French coasts and mountain regions also have great congestion potential. A lot of traffic and occasional traffic jams are expected on the access roads of the excursion regions in the subordinate road network of the Alpine countries.

Due to the high volume of traffic and intensive personal controls, car tourists have to be prepared for hours of waiting at the borders, especially on the return journey to Germany. All details about border controls at https://bit.ly/adac_grenzen_corona.
