DIF de Jerez promotes breast cancer prevention

With the support of the Jerezana Women’s Institute (Inmuje), the DIF Municipal System carried out a informative conference for city council workers and citizens, in addition to offering them free mammograms, in order to raise awareness about the prevention of breast cancer.

Nayeli Álvarez Haro, president of the family system, emphasized that although October is the month dedicated to the issue, it is not enough to emphasize that women should constantly take care of themselves and check themselves if breast cancer is detected early it is curable.

The person in charge of Inmuje, Marina Miranda Saldívar, in the presence of the director of the SMDIF, Araceli Salas Acevedo, confirmed that for the municipal government it is essential that women are well, both emotionally and physically, so actions like these are permanent.

The gynecologist and speaker, Salvador Mauricio Cabral, explained that breast cancer is a problem that is affecting more and more women of all ages, Well, now it is common to detect it from the age of 20.

He pointed out that, if as women and men the risk factors and the ways to prevent them are known, they can have an advantage over the disease, reaffirming that information and prevention are very powerful tools.

He specified that risk factors include the onset of menstruation at an early age, late onset of menopause, late age for the first pregnancy, short breastfeeding, therapeutic hormones, obesity, excessive alcohol consumption, among others.

As preventive actions, he highlighted the periodic review, self-examination, good nutrition and exercise.
