Died resident health care institution Wageningen was aggressive all evening | NOW

The resident of a care institution in Wageningen who died on Wednesday evening in a stab incident within the building was aggressive the entire evening, police report Friday night in a press release. Agents who came to the scene to arrest the man tried to resuscitate him, but that didn’t help.

It is not clear whether the resident died during the arrest. Employees of the care institution managed to overpower the man and steal his “sharp object” before the police arrived. According to local residents, it took some time because they had difficulty reaching 112. When that did happen, the answer would have been given that “no police cars are available”.

Initially, the man turned his aggression to his own room. Later in the evening he would have directed anger at employees. Two of them had to go to the hospital for a check-up, but were sent quickly.

A total of three investigations were launched into the incident. The police investigate the causes of the death of the resident, while the problems heard about calling 112 are investigated by the police department Security, Integrity and Complaints (VIK). Finally, the National Criminal Investigation Department investigates the actions of agents on the spot because the resident died in the presence of the police.
