Diablo Immortal: The first test runs are finally getting closer

A year and a half ago it was THE excitement of BlizzCon: fans hoped for Diablo IV, but were only given a mobile spin-off called Diablo Immortal. While the continuation of the main series is now also official, it was quiet around Diablo Immortal – but that is now about to change.

The announcement of Diablo Immortal was given a real shitstorm by fans on the net, and since then the mobile spin-off has also traveled a rocky road. The release, which had long been expected at this point, is still a long time coming, but now there is light at the end of the tunnel.

In the current annual report on the quarterly figures, Activision also mentioned the Diablo spin-off for iOS and Android, which is currently being worked on in cooperation with the Chinese giant NetEase. Although there was no specific release date, the prospect of “first regional tests” of the title was announced. Accordingly, such first test runs in individual regions are expected to start “mid-2020”.

In the mobile sector, such test runs are tantamount to a soft launch of games in selected regions. If there are no major problems there, the global release will follow as soon as possible.

At the beginning of 2019, the NetEase CFO had said that the mobile action RPG was no longer far from a release, but this assumption was obviously wrong. At BlizzCon 2019 in November last year, Blizzard Entertainment later emphasized that “significant time” was still necessary to “reach the Blizzard quality level that we are striving for”. After all, Diablo Immortal is also pursuing “ambitious goals”.
