diabetes and hypertension may be aggravating factors

The Covid-19 continues to gain ground. The death toll now stands at 2,442 dead and more than 75,000 people infected in China. According to the WHO, the window of fire to avoid the risk of pandemic is narrowing.

The epidemic is now spreading to more than 25 countries around the world and has left a dozen dead outside of China. Italy, which records the second death and 132 cases of contamination on its territory, put eleven of its cities in quarantine this Sunday and canceled the festivities of the carnival of Venice.

This disease, which appeared in December in China in the city of Wuhan, is particularly dangerous for the elderly. But people with chronic conditions are also vulnerable.

Critical condition in 16% of diabetic patients

A new study of 1099 patients published online on the Yale University platform and the British Medical Journal medRxiv suggests that hypertension and diabetes in patients affected by Covid-19 may be aggravating factors.

In detail, 23.7% of patients affected by the coronavirus and in a “critical condition” were affected by hypertension, while 16.2% were diabetic (it is not known if it is type 1 or 2 diabetes).

The study also confirms that the three main symptoms are manifested by fever (87.9% of patients), a coughing fit (67.7%) and abnormal fatigue (38.1%).

The mode of contamination is most often respiratory (cough, sneeze, droplets). Recent research has also shown that the virus was found in the stools of some patients.
