DHF Cases Rise, Health Office Again Promote Clean Friday

BANYUWANGI – The peak of the rainy season in Banyuwangi apparently did not only have an impact on the overflow of rainwater which made several roads inundated. Cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) have also started to rise in the last two weeks.

Since early January, there have been 27 people affected by dengue. One of them died. Acting Head of the Banyuwangi Health Office, Amir Hidayat, said the curve for the increase in dengue cases rose simultaneously in several areas of East Java, including Banyuwangi.

Amir said there was a tendency to increase cases of dengue fever. This phenomenon is also an additional challenge for the community to maintain their health. This is because the threat of the spread of the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus is still looming.

Therefore, the Health Office has issued a circular addressed to sub-districts, villages and health centers to jointly prevent dengue fever. One of them is the 3M movement, namely draining, closing, and burying places that have the potential to become hotbeds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which is the vector for the spread of dengue fever.

“Indications of an increase have occurred. In the last few days, from the cases we read there is an increasing trend. Therefore, we ask the community to come back together to carry out the movement to eradicate mosquito nests,” said Amir.

The 3M movement itself was stopped for a long time after the Covid-19 pandemic hit. In fact, dengue fever is still a fairly deadly phenomenon. Especially for children.

Therefore, Amir hopes that this movement will be re-invigorated in all puskesmas, villages and sub-districts. With the hope that there will be no additional new cases during the rainy season. “The movement is carried out every Friday morning, at least the water reservoir is also drained once a week. Then garbage and places that can hold water are closed or cleaned so that Aedes aegypti mosquitoes cannot nest and lay eggs there,” he concluded.
