Merdeka.com – Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) has begun to threaten the people of South Sumatra. So far, five patients have died from the disease carried by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
“There are five cases of death due to dengue fever, namely from Palembang, Banyuasin, and Empat Lawang,” said Head of Communicable Disease Prevention and Control of the South Sumatra Health Service, Muyono, Monday (28/2).

During this year, there were 433 people suffering from dengue fever. Most of them came from Palembang with 98 cases, Banyuasin (60), Ogan Komering Ulu Timur (52), Ogan Ilir (37), Lubuklinggau (35), Musi Banyuasin (30), and Muara Enim (26), as well as other areas. , except Pagaralam with zero cases.
“Most of the sufferers are toddlers, children, and teenagers,” he said.
Compared to the previous month, February 2022 tends to experience a decrease in dengue cases. This is the impact of changes in the weather, which starts to rain a little, thereby reducing damp and puddles.
“Last month, there were 329 cases of dengue fever. At that time there were lots of puddles because it rained often,” he said.
Even though the number of cases has decreased, his party appealed to the public to remain vigilant about the dangers of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The method of eradicating it is very easy, which is to just cover, drain, and bury areas that are potentially flooded.
“It’s not difficult, just live healthy and clean habits of the people themselves. Look at the situation around them, don’t let mosquitoes nest,” he concluded.
