DGB boss: “No dynamism” at the CDU and the Greens in Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf.
Düsseldorf’s DGB boss Sigrid Wolf considers the transport policy of the black-green cooperation to be a mistake. Little has happened so far.

The DGB-Düsseldorf draws a critical balance in the transport policy after a year of black-green coalition. For the chairwoman, Sigrid Wolf, the current conditions on the street are intolerable. “Düsseldorf continues to choke on traffic,” she says. Employees often need twice the travel time to get to work during rush hour than usual.

“Sunday speeches” from politics

“In Sunday speeches, politicians announced the expansion of local public transport in order to get more people to switch,” continued Wolf. “The fact is that the expansion in Düsseldorf is simply not making any headway. Area-wide traffic light priority switching for local public transport has been announced for years. Little has happened here. It is not enough just to abolish the environmental tracks. ”The DGB boss sees here with the Lord Mayor Stephan Keller and the black-green coalition“ no dynamism ”.

DGB offers support for a “comprehensive concept”

Public transport must be designed so attractively that it offers offers in short cycle times without changing trains, that commuters can use it cheaply to and from Düsseldorf and thus offer real alternatives. “Park-and-ride” systems on the outskirts should also be expediently expanded. There is no alternative to the expansion of safe bike paths, but the safety of the cyclists must first and foremost be taken into account. And in order to promote electromobility, many more charging stations have to be created, according to the DGB.

Wolf: “The DGB repeats its assessment from summer 2019 that only a well thought-out concept that includes all road users can create solutions in the long term. This requires optimized cooperation and coordination of the individual modes of transport with the support of modern traffic control systems. Avoiding traffic is also a fundamental option. ”When developing a comprehensive concept, the DGB offers“ constructive, cooperation. ”
