Vonovia buys 1,000 apartments in Kiel
– Strengthening activities in the state capital
– Good integration of high-quality apartments into neighborhoods
– Nothing will change for tenants
– All 12 employees will be taken over
Bochum, December 2, 2020. Vonovia is taking over around 1,000 apartments in Kiel from the Danish H&L Ejendomme A / S. Both parties signed a purchase agreement on this today. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The antitrust approval was given on November 27, 2020. The transfer of the apartments is planned for December 30, 2020.
“We are pleased to expand our housing stock in Kiel with a sustainable portfolio of high quality. We are closely interwoven with the city and manage our properties according to social criteria and for decades. Our goal is to offer our tenants attractive living as part of urban society At fair prices. We are developing our neighborhoods in a socially acceptable way, for example by renovating them in an age-appropriate manner, “says Dirk Brunnert, Managing Director for the Northern Division at Vonovia. The houses that have now been acquired are in central locations in the state capital; the previous owner has built up the portfolio since 2007. “The portfolios fit together very well, so that we can optimally integrate the new apartments into our quarters. Of course, all rental contracts remain valid – we are aware of our responsibility for our tenants.” So nothing changes for the tenants.
Vonovia will take over the employees of the owner company H&L Immobilien GmbH in Kiel, a subsidiary of the Danish H&L Ejendomme A / S. “We need their expertise and their drive, after all, we still have a lot to do together in Kiel,” says Dirk Brunnert. Vonovia employs a total of 300 people in the city and only opened a new district office in the Zukunfts-Quartier in Kiel-Gaarden in December 2019. “We offer tenants personal consultation hours and 24/7 customer service.”
Vonovia’s largest locations in northern Germany are Kiel, Bremen and Hamburg as well as Lübeck and Hanover. Vonovia has been at home in the Kiel region since 1918 and has managed around 23,000 apartments there to date. 2,000 of them are publicly funded. The vacancy rate in the portfolio in Kiel is 2.2%, the rent is 6.53 EUR / sqm.

Vonovia offers a home to around one million people in Germany.
