Which clubs from all over Germany will definitely compete in the first round?
The 36 first and second division teams of the 2019/20 season have already qualified. Added to this are the promoted Würzburger Kickers and Eintracht Braunschweig from the previous third division season. FC Ingolstadt and MSV Duisburg from the 3rd division are also there.

Which participants are still wanted?
Most of the other participants are determined in the cup finals of the national associations. The problem: Because of the Corona break, not only have the finals been postponed, in some countries there are even quarter-finals. For the not yet determined participants, placeholders will be used in the draw. There is a special case in Saxony-Anhalt: There the cup has already been finally canceled and 1. FC Magdeburg has been designated as the DFB Cup participant. From Bavaria, which has two starting places, the 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 is also in all probability.

Why don’t you just wait with the draw?
The national cup finals are to be played on August 22nd as part of the “Amateurs Final Day”. The DFB does not want to wait until then with the draw. According to the association, the early date was chosen “to enable amateur clubs in particular to plan more intensively for the venues”.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, amateur clubs need a hygiene concept and a stadium where this can also be implemented. By mid-August, all amateur clubs that are eligible to participate in the first round must determine a home venue and present a hygiene concept agreed with the responsible authorities. The exact time schedule should then be published as soon as possible.
