Union Berlin welcomes 1. FC Heidenheim

the 1. FC Union Berlin meets second division team 1. FC Heidenheim in the An der Alten Försterei stadium in the second round of the DFB Cup. “Due to the many away games in the coming weeks, we are very happy to have a home game,” said Union Managing Director professional football Oliver Ruhnert on the draw: “We still know Heidenheim well, they still have the same coach and are a top team in the second division .A good opponent who we have to be very focused on.”

Heidenheim had beaten fourth division club FV Illertissen in the first round. Union Berlin qualified for the 2nd round with a 2:1 after extra time against Chemnitzer FC. 1. FC Union is the only club from Berlin remaining in the competition after Hertha BSC and FC Viktoria Berlin were eliminated in the first round.

The second round of the DFB Cup will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday (October 18/19).

Are the cup games shown on TV?

ARD, ZDF and Sky have secured the broadcasting rights for the 2022/2023 DFB Cup. DAZN and Sport1 are allowed to show highlight clips in their programs. The two public broadcasters ARD and ZDF are allowed to broadcast a total of 15 games live. This means that there are two more games to watch on free TV than before – including the two semi-finals and the cup final in Berlin. As in previous years, the pay-TV broadcaster Sky will broadcast all 63 games live and in full, from the first main round to the final, as well as in the original Sky conference.

On the digital platform of the streaming service DAZN, fans will be able to access highlights of the cup games from midnight on the day of the match. Sport1 secured the right to show free-to-air game reports and clips from the day after the game in question.
