DFB and DFL decide two changeover periods in summer

In times of the pandemic, everything is different.

So also in the upcoming transfer summer in the Bundesliga. The board of the German Football Association (DFB) announced on Monday after the end of the season together with the German Football League (DFL) that there would be two periods of change this year.

Accordingly, the transfer window will be open next Wednesday, July 1, 2020 (changeover period I.1), and from July 15th to October 5th, 2020 (changeover period I.2). German clubs can usually switch between July 1st and August 31st.

This time there are two time slots, the first of which only lasts one day. July 1 is especially intended to register contracts that have already been concluded from July 1.

All players who are affected will then receive a player’s permit for the 2020/21 season. But not for the 2019/20 season, which at that time will not be fully completed in parts.

The second changeover period is significantly longer so that the clubs “can also make transfers as long and flexibly as possible internationally”, said a statement. This complies with a recommendation from the UEFA Executive Committee. The European Football Association had called on its associations to set October 5 as the common end date for the transfer window.
