Devs Kerbal Space Program and NASA challenge players to emulate mission to ISS – Gaming – Geeks

Kerbal Space Program players are challenged to recreate the upcoming SpaceX launch from American territory to the International Space Station in the game. The studio shares the best attempts with NASA.

“We ask you to simulate the mission and share your images with us”, to write the developers on Twitter. The action also seems to be in collaboration with NASA, because it has tweeted responded: “We love a good challenge. Show us what you can do, Kerbonauts!” In addition to the ‘see what NASA thinks’ reward, nothing more is said about what awaits the winners.

The competition is in response to the first US shuttle launch to the ISS. Since 2011, Russian Soyuz capsules have been the only way for astronauts to reach the station. They are launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, on a plain in Kazakhstan. The Americans had their own Space Shuttle program for that, but it simply became too expensive over time. The successor, the Constellation program, was canceled for the same reasons. Tweakers wrote on the issues one extensive backstory.

Someone unfamiliar with Kerbal Space Program would think the game is a serious, realistic simulation of space travel. However, nothing could be further from the truth: the game is a simulation of a space program, but trial & error is intended to be a big part of the fun, unlike the real thing. The game is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
