Developers don’t even pretend to care about remasters, they’re getting worse

<!—->

Dust off an old game classic, polish it a bit, add support for previously unused widescreen displays and sell it again at a “good” price.

The Remaster Blade Runner is without the slightest exaggeration worse than an 18-year-old original.

It seems like an easy recipe for success, because a few skilled programmers are enough. And it really works, because when you strum the right nostalgic string, people shop impulsively, not thoughtfully. Unfortunately, this situation has reached the current state, where publishers are not ashamed to offer fans remasters that are objectively much worse than the originals.

Currently, the game world is moved by the case of the unsuccessful remaster of the classic adventure Blade Runner. It is one of the best game adaptations of a film master ever, which at the time seemed like from another universe. What I’m going to tell you, I was looking forward to the remaster myself as a little boy. On the one hand, I uncritically adore the game (see older retro article), on the one hand, the conversion into the new form was taken care of by the experienced studio Nightdive, which similarly restored, for example, Strife, Shadow Man or Harvester.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy failed in the reviews, but it sold well.

But the result is absolutely sad this time and the game without the slightest exaggeration looks worse than on CRT monitors in 1997 and is played worse than a ball mouse.

Not only do we have a lot of new bugs caused by switching to another engine, but she and the supposedly improved graphics only consist in the fact that everything is just disgustingly blurred.

Of course, remasters of old games are basically just milking money, but gaming companies have recently crossed all boundaries and are openly laughing in the face of customers.

And even the biggest ones, such as Activision Blizzard or Take Two, whose WarCraft 3: Reforged a Grand Theft Auto Trilogy they boldly compete in the ranking of the worst rated games on Metacritic at all (and by the way, in the last two years they have won in the category of disappointment of the year in in our surveys). And unfortunately there are no exceptions, recently the remasters of the Commandos strategy have not been successful at all, Knights of the Old Republic or maybe the horror Silent Hill.

WarCraft III: Reforged was a prime example of a bad remaster.

Why this is the case was revealed by the developer Simon Thomley from the HeadCannon studio, which is signed under the also criticized remaster of the classic bouncer Sonic Origins. It is obviously important for the publisher that only the old game can be released on new machines, and they are no longer interested in it.
