Red Wings Prospect Team Drops Close 6-5 Decision to Stars in Frisco Finale
FRISCO, Texas – The Detroit Red Wings’ promising group of prospects concluded their participation in the 2025 NHL prospect Games with a hard-fought 6-5 loss to the dallas Stars on Sunday night at Comerica Center. Despite the defeat, the red Wings institution views the weekend as a valuable experience for player development and team building.
“I think itS a great opportunity for the young guys to gel,” said Grand Rapids Griffins head coach Dan Watson. “They’re draft picks, and we hope to see them play together, whether it’s in Grand Rapids or Detroit. It’s an opportunity to know each other, learn about each other. For the guys I obviously had in Grand Rapids, it was an opportunity for us to see what kind of summer they had.”
The Stars jumped out to an early lead, mirroring their performance from the previous night. Jaxon Fuder opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the game with a wrist shot during a 2-on-1 rush, giving Dallas a 1-0 advantage. artem Shlaine extended the lead to 2-0 at 7:32 of the first period, capitalizing on a pass from Fuder.
Detroit responded with a power-play goal from Shai Buium at 14:41 of the first, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Carson Bantle and Amadeus Lombardi were credited with assists on Buium’s second goal of the tournament.
“I thought our guys competed really hard all the way through,” Watson commented.”They probably got a little bit tired, especially our top six forwards there. We shuffled some lines around later in the game to try to generate a little more offense, but overall pretty pleased with what I saw.”
While the Red Wings battled throughout the remainder of the contest, the Stars ultimately prevailed, securing a 6-5 victory. The Red Wings now return home, having gained valuable experience and fostered camaraderie amongst their future stars.
