Detroit Mayoral Race: ⁢Sheffield and Kinloch Compete to ⁢Succeed Duggan – Live Results

Detroit, MI​ – November 7,⁣ 2023 – voters⁣ in Detroit are casting ⁣ballots⁢ today, November 7, to ‌elect a new mayor, with City Council President Mary Sheffield and⁣ Senior⁢ Pastor solomon Kinloch vying for the position. The outcome will⁢ determine who succeeds three-term ⁢Mayor Mike Duggan, who is currently running as ⁤an autonomous candidate ​for⁤ Michigan‘s open⁤ governor’s seat in 2026.

Sheffield, first elected to Detroit City ‌Council in 2013 at age 26, ​has served as council‌ president as 2022.A victory would make her⁤ the first woman and the first Black woman to serve as mayor of Detroit.

Kinloch is the senior pastor at ⁤Triumph Church, a Detroit-based congregation with over 40,000 members across​ multiple campuses. Prior to his religious leadership, Kinloch worked as an autoworker and was a member of the United Auto Workers union.
