Despite the court’s order, TVP Info has still not removed texts about Marek Niedźwiecki

The Warsaw district court ordered the removal of eight texts from the TVP Info website after Marek Niedźwiecki’s representative on June 10 filed a lawsuit against Polish Radio and its authorities (president Agnieszka Kamińska and the former director of the Three, Tomasz Kowalczewski) – and also against TVP. The journalist in the public television materials was accused of manipulating the results of the Three Hits List. Two weeks have passed since the court’s decision; the texts can still be found on the station’s website.

In mid-May, on Sunday evening, the TVP Info portal reported the entry of a person introducing himself as Tomaldo Banjo. The user pretended to be the musician of the band Antyquariat and accused Marek Niedźwiecki of taking bribes for placing his songs on the Polish Radio Three. On Monday morning the text was removed and a revised version was published. Although this text has disappeared, on the station’s website – at the moment, on July 29 in the evening – you can still find articles presenting Niedźwiecki in a bad light and accusing him of manipulation. E.g: “He accused” Niedźwiedzia “of setting the charts … and deleted the post. He explains why”, “Director of Three: The host introduced Kazik’s song. It was four o’clock” whether “Who and why put Kazik who had fewer votes in the first place? Michał Rachoń on LP3”.

Two weeks have passed since the court decision – so it can be assumed that TVP Info had time and the opportunity to read the court decision. Even so, the station did not follow it. In an interview with Gazeta Wyborcza, Marek Niedźwiecki’s attorney, Maciej Ślusarek, announced: “I will enforce the court’s decision. First, I will apply to TVP for its execution. And if that does not help, I will ask the court to impose a penalty on TVP.”
