Currently, the Latvian football championship team “Riga FC” is waiting for the decision of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) to go to quarantine, after Tuesday morning 16 positive Covid-19 tests were detected, but this will not be a reason to stop the league games. –

Romans Lajuks, Executive Director of Riga FC, confirmed to LSM.lv that out of 16 tested in the club, 16 positive coronavirus tests were detected – 14 players and two coaches. The club is ready to go to quarantine, but it is not clear how and when to continue participating in the championship in order to protect the title of champion, because for many players the contract with the club expires at the end of November.

Lajuks revealed that already on November 6 he had applied to finish the championship prematurely. “And we fell first,” said the CEO.

However, the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) is not currently considering the possibility of terminating the Premier League championship, because only one of the teams has more than five positive cases of Covid-19, said LomsM.lv Head of the LFF Communication Department Toms Ārmanis. At least for now, it is planned that the games scheduled for this week will take place in the Premier League, Ārmanis pointed out.

At the meeting of the Latvian Football Super League on Friday, in a vote of six to four, a decision was made to support the proposal not to continue the Super League championship due to the spread of coronavirus, but on Monday the LFF did not accept this proposal, said Ainārs Dakša, Executive Director of LSM.lv. According to him, the departure of one team in the team at the moment can affect the further course of the whole championship. In addition, the tournament is due to end in November.

Unofficial information suggests that other clubs may have players who have been in contact with Covid-19 infected individuals.

The hot discussions in the football super-league are understandable at the moment – although there are only two rounds left, the fight for the title of champion and starting next year in the Champions League between RFS and “Riga FC” is not over. Also, the league’s recent “Metta” and “Tukums 2000 / TSS” can still fight to stay in the league. It is possible, however, that the postponed games of the previous rounds may make adjustments to the championship table, and the sporting interest in continuing this tournament will no longer be relevant.

Currently, the Riga FC team is in the leading position with 69 points in 25 games. The RFS unit, which spent less than one game, has accumulated 60 points. “Valmiera FC” is in the third place after 23 games played, but only the point behind the entry into the Euroleague zone is the titled FC “Ventspils”, which has played 25 games.

FK “Spartaks” with 34 points in 25 games is in the fifth position, in the sixth place is FK “Liepāja” with 32 points, accumulated in 23 matches, but the seventh is FK “Jelgava” with 21 points in 24 games.

“BFC Daugavpils” is in the eighth position with 20 points in 25 games, the ninth is “Metta” with 16 points in 25 games, but “Tukums 2000 / TSS” is only two points behind, which, maintaining such a position, would return to the 1st league next year according to the rules. .

Ten teams are playing in the Premier League this year, covering three laps – 27 games. Theoretically, the Premier League championship should end on November 29.
