Derrick Henry Fumble: Ravens Loss, Apology, and Repeat Performance

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry expressed profound disappointment and took duty after a costly fumble‍ during Monday night’s 38-30‌ loss to the Detroit Lions at M&T Bank Stadium. The Ravens now hold a 1-2 record to start the season.

The fumble, forced by Lions defensive end Aidan hutchinson with 8:31 remaining in the fourth quarter, halted a potential Ravens drive to take the lead and ultimately contributed to a crucial field goal for Detroit, extending their advantage to a touchdown. This incident adds to growing concerns ⁢surrounding Henry’s ball security early in his tenure with Baltimore, a key factor as the team seeks to contend in a competitive AFC.

Henry, visibly frustrated, slammed his helmet upon reaching the⁤ sideline ⁣after the turnover. The fumble marked his third of the season, matching ⁣his total from all of 2023.

“I’m at a loss for words,” Henry‌ said after the game. ‍”It’s not a good feeling. I’m going to keep working to get it fixed.”

the play occurred promptly after a critical ⁢stop by the Ravens’ defense, positioning Baltimore to perhaps seize control of‍ the back-and-forth contest. Hutchinson‘s strip-sack mirrored a similar fumble by Henry during a previous ‌game against the Buffalo Bills, which also sparked a significant comeback by the opposing team.

Henry apologized to his teammates, coaches, and fans following the game, acknowledging the impact of his mistakes. The Ravens will need to address the issue‍ of ball security as they move forward in the season.
