After the inauguration of the new president of the United States (EU), Joe Biden, on January 20, The number of Jalisco that has been repatriated increased the following month, from 378 to 451 events, according to statistical data from the Immigration Policy, Registration and Identity of Persons Unit.

They are referred to as “events”, since the same person may have been repatriated several times in a certain period. Thus, at the national level, during February there were 11,433 documented cases.

Joe Biden has tightened immigration policy, so the figures of his predecessor, Donald Trump, could be exceeded.
In general, repatriation events had registered a decrease last year, since the 32 entities added 184,423 in 2020, when in 2019 there were 211,241 from January to December.

Biden assured that migration has its origin in the problems of insecurity and violence in Latin America, in addition to other factors such as natural disasters.

That is why, he said, these must be addressed in each country in order to curb the reasons that lead its citizens to risk traveling, which is why he plans to restructure the $ 700 million economic support program that Trump did not implement.
On Wednesday, the US Vice President, Kamala Harris, announced that she will travel to Mexico and Guatemala to discuss the issue of the migratory crisis, so that those governments face “the root causes” that generate the phenomenon.
In recent months, an increase in the flow of migrants has been reported, as well as a greater number of minors traveling alone. In fact, the number of events of Jalisco citizens under the age of 18 repatriated in February was 44, more than double that reported a month earlier (19).
