Department – Facts-divers – In addition to Vitrolles, yesterday’s fires in Istres and Marignane

Our department was not spared by the fires yesterday. The first fire broke out at 12:30 p.m., in the Montaiguet near Aix: 60 firefighters and 15 emergency vehicles engaged quickly brought this fire under control

An hour later, a second fire broke out in the town of Vitrolles, near the cemetery, in
along the A7 (see all our videos in our previous dispatches). This fire generated significant smoke, visible at the gates of Marseille. At the height of this fire, 250 firefighters were mobilized to protect the 250 habitats that were in the axis of the spread of the fire and to overcome this disaster which covered 30 hectares. The many land means were supplemented by
civil security air assets: Canadairs and Dash were engaged to fight against the flames and protect the threatened homes … A real urban guerrilla warfare on the ground with numerous bursts of fire and a fire spreading very quickly from strong wind on site and thus making the intervention complex. 60 people were brought to safety and welcomed in the Piot gymnasium made available by the town hall of Vitrolles. They were able to return to their homes at the end of the day. At the beginning of
the fire, the A7 was cut in both directions of traffic. Thanks to the rapid and efficient action of the fire brigade13, air assets and reinforcement columns, only 2 houses and a few vehicles were damaged by flames and smoke.

However, the day was not over for the firefighters13: in parallel with the fire in Vitrolles, a fire broke out in Istres at 3.30 p.m. for which 56 firefighters, 14 machines and air resources were engaged. These means were effective and quickly brought this fire under control, which covered only 1,500 m2.

Around 4:30 p.m., a new fire broke out, this time at Marignane : 30 Firefighters13 and 6 machines were mobilized for 2,500 m2 of burnt dry grass. The speed of the means and particularly the means made it possible to preserve the dwellings.

Despite numerous human resources committed and the multiplicity of fires, no civilian casualties were to be deplored and no injured among the firefighters. Increased vigilance remains in order today with a mistral which will continue to blow at 60 km / h.
