DENK board expels group chairman Azarkan from party | NOW

The board of DENK kicked out party chairman Farid Azarkan on Wednesday. According to party chairman and Member of Parliament Selçuk Öztürk, Azarkan would disadvantage the party “unreasonably” and can no longer represent DENK.

In the press release, the board writes that Azarkan would have damaged the party. Complaints had been received from members about his performance and Azarkan had failed to meet financial obligations.

Tunahan Kuzu speaks on Twitter of “an insane action”. “Resentful, insane and incompetent. I stand 200 percent behind Azarkan.”

Azarkan is not available for comment.

Political power struggle is tearing DENK top

DENK has been in a political power struggle between founders Öztürk and Kuzu for months.

Kuzu accused Öztürk of political brotherhood of murder after coming out that he had an extramarital affair with an employee.

According to Kuzu, Öztürk leaked the affair after criticizing him and Azarkan for the functioning of Öztürk. According to the two MPs, their group member would all too often get negative news because of controversial statements.

Öztürk does not step down

Azarkan asked the board and party chairman Öztürk to step down a month ago. On 6 June, members of the party could consider the matter. Several local group leaders have called on the board to step down.

Last Saturday, board member and treasurer Serif Uysal announced to resign. However, Öztürk sees no reason to step down.

The remaining board, which consists of only two members, remains of the opinion that it is empowered to take decisions – at least until the members have expressed their views on the management crisis at the general meeting. “There the board will be accountable and accountable”, the press release says.
