DENISON, Texas (KXII) - A new creative hub has opened in Downtown Denison, offering all-inclusive art classes adn a gallery space for local artists. goodwill Artworks, managed by lifelong artist Matt Bardwell, aims to make art accessible to everyone.
“Art is for everyone,” Bardwell saeid. “I do believe that it’s in everyone.”
The studio, curated in partnership with the Goodwill Mission Program and directed by Kristi Gourd, provides a therapeutic environment for artistic expression. It features classes in music and the arts, an interactive projection wall, and a safe space for individuals of all abilities to explore their creativity.
“the mission programs are designed for us to help our community in many different ways,” Gourd said. “We have had a lot of fun so far.”
The gallery side of Artworks offers artists the opportunity to showcase and sell their work, filling a need in Grayson County.
“Grayson County in general needed something like this,” Bardwell said.
Goodwill Artworks is actively seeking both artists and volunteers.
“just come in and talk to us and let’s meet and greet and find out what you have going on,” Gourd said. “We’re looking for artists of all kinds and we’re always looking for volunteers, we love volunteers.”
Bardwell emphasized the importance of art in everyday life. “Art’s critically important,” he said. “I don’t know what life would be without art and music, where would any of us be without it?”
