Two days after her first win in singles, biathlete Denise Herrmann was not able to achieve another top position in the last race before the World Cup. In Pokljuka’s World Cup mass start, the 31-year-old missed five times on Sunday and was unable to intervene in the battle for the podium in the end as 15th. The former cross-country skier, who had been faultless four times for the first time in her career, was 2: 00.1 minutes short of winner Hanna Öberg from Sweden after 12.5 kilometers. Lisa Vittozzi from Italy came second ahead of French Anais Bescond.
18 days before the start of the World Championships in Antholz, Vanessa Hinz only managed to place 24 after four penalties. Karolin Horchler (5 mistakes), who had moved up due to cancellations in the top 30, was the last to finish. Horchler clearly missed the World Cup standard on her last chance.
Only three of the women in Herrmann, Hinz and Franziska Preuß, who were spared in the mass start and did not compete, have the World Cup norm. Nevertheless, it is likely that two more women will go to Antholz. The closest could be Horchler and Janina Hettich. Former world champions Franziska Hildebrand and Maren Hammerschmidt are said to have fewer chances.
