Democratic Party Responds to NasDem’s Opinion on Vice Presidential Candidate

Chairman of the Democratic Party Bappilu Andi Arief respond to Waketum’s opinion NasDem Party Ahmad Ali who said that his party was only forcing it Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) be vice president Anies Baswedan. Andi Arief then asked Ahmad Ali again.

Through his Twitter account, Andi Arief dismissed this notion. Andi Arief instead asked Ahmad Ali whether NasDem would leave if Anies chose AHY as vice presidential candidate.

“According to Mad Ali, the Democrats’ bluff just to force AHY to become Anies’ vice presidential candidate and to withdraw from the coalition can make us turn around to ask Mad Ali if Anies chooses AHY, will NasDem leave the coalition?” said Andi Arief in his uploaded tweet, Friday (9/6/2023).

Previously, Ahmad Ali responded to Andi Arief’s statement that the Democrats would think of other options if by June there was no certainty about the declaration of the presidential and vice presidential candidates. Ali assessed that the Democratic Party was looking for other options because they did not receive confirmation that AHY’s chairman would be Anies Baswedan’s vice presidential candidate.

“Want to take another option? Surely in your mind the other option is that the Democrats want to withdraw from the Coalition for Change. Or maybe it could be because of the uncertainty that AHY will become vice president, or he wants to say that if Anies is not with AHY, we will leave,” Ali said when contacted, Tuesday (23/5/2023).

Ali said that since the beginning the parties in KPP had agreed to form a partnership. In fact, based on the charter agreement, each party handed over the cawapres decision to Anies Baswedan.

“Giving a mandate to Anies to choose his cawapres. So, that’s the mandate today and Anies is using it to make a selection to find the right cawapres,” said Ali.

He said the decline in the electability of the Democratic Party in Kompas Research and Development was also experienced by NasDem. He considered that the decrease could be because there were parties who wanted to force their cadres to become Anies’ companion.

“Then regarding this, the last Kompas survey, right? There was a decrease or the Democrats’ votes decreased a bit, including the NasDem. That continues to be the reason. Yes, I think differently too,” said Ali.

“It is possible that Anies’s survey did not go up and then the parties in the coalition dropped their survey because there are parties that have openly set up pairs, giving the impression of pairing Anies with certain cadres,” he continued.
