The former cop and Democrat Eric Adams has been imposed this Tuesday in the elections to the New York City Hall with the 66.7 percent of the votes to 65 percent counted.
Adams, so far president from the New York district of Brooklyn, thus overwhelms the Republican candidate, Curtis Sliwa, who is currently taking 28.2 percent of the votes, according to the US network CNN. Estimates made at the close of the polls gave 75 percent of the vote for the Democrat.
Projected as the winner by various media that rule out a comeback, Adams, who would thus become the second African-American mayor in city history – David Dinkins, elected in 1989, was the first -, has already declared himself the winner.

The retired police captain has affirmed that the victory in the elections is “a dream come true” and has shown his “pride” in representing “the city that we all love as its elected mayor.”

Adams was the clear favorite to run for Mayor, succeeding also Democrat Bill de Blasio due to Democrats’ roughly seven-to-one voter registration advantage over Republicans in New York.
Following his victory in the party’s primaries, the ex-cop ran a campaign focused on public safety and headed for office backed by his deep experience in New York politics. Now 61, he will take office as mayor on January 1.
The victory of the Democratic candidate in the city of New York comes the same day that his party has suffered a defeat in the state of Virginia where the next government will be led by a Republican.
